Problems Connecting the Acer Aspire One
to at BT Total Broadband Home Hub
Wirelessly connecting an Acer
Aspire One to a BT Total Broadband Home Hub should be a relatively
simple process, however there do seem to to be some connectivity
issues and this may be due to the connection protocol or the channel
used. If you do find yourself in the situation whereby the
Acer Aspire One recognizes the BT Home hub so far as to display the
hub connection name but will not actually connect then try the
following steps to rectify the problem. This has proved to be
a solution:
-
Connect the Acer to the hub
using the supplied network cable. If the Acer does not
recognise the connection then there may be another unrelated
issue.
-
Go into the admin pages for
the BT Home hub - enter the IP address of the hub into the
Internet Browser on the Acer (normally something like
192.168.1.254). Find the wireless settings and change WPA
to WEP (64bit). Also change the wireless channel to 1 (or
if a different channel if the problems later persist, 1 works in
the known case).
-
On the Acer go into the
Network Connection manager to change the settings for the BT
Home hub connection manager to be WEP and don't forget to enter
the key code for the hub.
-
Shut the Acer down, disconnect
it from the network cable and then reboot ensuring that the
wireless adapter is turned on (Orange light showing).
-
The Acer should now
automatically connect to the BT Home hub.
This specific case relates to an
Acer Aspire One with Linpus Linux and a BT Total Broadband Home hub
and occurred with newly installed hardware mid Feb 2009. The
