Chase
Vodka and English Whisky
Chapter 6 English Whisky never to be repeated
The English Whisky Company, situated in Norfolk, is a family run company and St George's is the first registered single malt distillery in England to produce a single malt whisky in over 120 years. The first run was in November 2006 and when the three year old whisky first appeared at the end of 2009, it instantly sold out. The second run is now available - but how long for?!
Chapter 6 three year old is unrepeated, non chill filtered and has no colours or preservatives. Made from locally grown barley and matured in former bourbon casks. Master Distiller Iain Henderson, previously manager at Laphroaig, oversees production.
From growing 'posh' crisps to growing the worlds' best potato vodka
Chase Vodka, from Tyrrells creator William
Chase, the potato farmer come entrepreneur from
Hereford, has just been awarded the WORLD's
Best Vodka with a
Double Gold Medal in THE most respected
spirits award, in San Fransisco, which is a huge
accolade for Chase.
William Chase
comments: "When we sold Tyrrells we had to
rename the vodka. And when we made the
first batch of vodka from our potatoes I was so
impressed with the quality that I was proud to
put my name on it. So winning this most
prestigious award for world's best quality
spirit is a great testament to our work so I was
really chuffed to have it endorsed as the worlds
best vodka.
Our main aim has always been
to grow our own raw materials here on the farm
to produce the finest Vodka in the world with
pedigree. This award is a fantastic
recognition that we doing just that and a
reminder that even a boutique business like ours
can more than compete with larger distillers
from across the world by producing quality not
quantity".
Using Maris Piper, Lady Claire
and Lady Rosetta potatoes, this boutique
distillery is proud to be a true eco-spirit.
Chief distiller, Jamie Baxter explains;
"We use the waste potatoes to feed the cows, the
potato peel as compost and the waste from the
still to irrigate the fields. We can even
tell you which field each bottle of vodka has
come from!"
This 40% ABV vodka is bottled
on the farm and all of the bottles are stopped
and labelled by hand.
As well as their
original Chase vodka the distillery also
produces Naked Chase and Williams Gin, both
distilled from their own Herefordshire cider,
plus limited editions of smoked vodka which has
sold out and they've just released another
limited edition English Breakfast Marmalade
Vodka, looking for the breakfast cocktail.
Chase also has a range of vodka distilled fresh
fruit liqueurs, that include Rhubarb and
Elderflower - the latter having also won an
award at the San Francisco Competition this
year.
TASTING NOTES: A clean and creamy
nose, with a light white pepper and hints of
freshly sliced potato. The palate becomes
spicier with a waxy oiliness and macadamia nuts.
The finish is clean and rounded with mineral
notes.
